In 1986, Rachel Brown sued The Mosser Lee Company, the owner of the building in which she worked, claiming that she had been injured by Mosser Lee's negligence in allowing her to be exposed to pollutants in the building. Mosser Lee's liability insurers, Commercial Union Insurance Company and Hartford Accident and Indemnity Company, were joined as defendants.
