Plaintiffs, Terry and Carrie Ekl, filed a complaint alleging that defendant, James Knecht, violated the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act (Act) (Ill. Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 121½, par. 261 et seq.). Following a bench trial, the circuit court of Du Page County awarded plaintiffs $307 in compensatory damages and $4,700 in punitive damages.
