NEELY, Justice:

A jury convicted James William Smith of second-degree murder of Paul Thompson, and the judge sentenced him to five to eighteen years in prison. Mr. Smith appealed to this Court alleging that involuntary confessions were used at trial and that the assistance of his counsel was ineffective.1 We were unable to resolve a number of issues raised by Mr. Smith in his appeal because of an insufficient factual record.
