In 1972, Charles Edwin Coleman pleaded guilty to and was convicted of assault and was sentenced to three years' probation. In 1977, he pleaded guilty to and was convicted of larceny from the person and was sentenced to four years' probation. In 1982, he pleaded guilty to and was convicted of robbery in the third degree and was sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment under the Habitual Felony Offender Statute.
