On the evening of October 29, 1987, Springfield police officers approached 55 Reed Street, Springfield, to execute a warrant to search the third-floor apartment. Several persons were standing on the first-floor porch or in a doorway to a staircase that led to the second and third-floor apartments. They began shouting warnings that the police were coming and fled up the stairs to the third-floor apartment...
