I. INTRODUCTION

Prior to their trial on racketeering and extortion charges, defendants Gaetano Vastola, Elias Saka, and their co-defendants moved, inter alia, to suppress certain electronic surveillance tapes contending that the tapes had not been sealed "immediately" as required by Title III of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 ("Wiretap Act"), as amended, at 18 U.S.C. § 2510
