MATTHEWS, Justice.

Marilyn R. Stulpin Garber (Garber) was injured on March 27, 1986, as she attempted to get on one of the elevators located in the Northward Building in Fairbanks. She claimed she tripped because the elevator stopped somewhat above the floor. The elevator was manufactured by Otis Elevator Company and installed in 1952.
