The defendant, Ozell Randle, Jr., was charged by indictment with the offenses of attempted murder, armed violence, and two counts of aggravated battery (Ill.Rev.Stat. 1989, ch. 38, pars. 8-4(a), 9-1(a)(1), 33A-2, 12-4(a), (b)(1)).
