On April 24, 1986, the State, through the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), expropriated 41.951 acres from a 300 acre tract in Rapides Parish in connection with the building of Interstate Highway 49, and deposited $758,881.00 in the registry of the court as its estimate of the full compensation to the landowners for the taking.
