This appeal arises out of a pretrial order of the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island suppressing certain evidence. We have jurisdiction under 18 U.S.C. § 3731. The appeal highlights important aspects of the interface between the fourth amendment and the constabulary's community caretaking function.
