Jupiter Corporation bought natural gas from producers in Louisiana and sold it to Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company. Tennessee Pipeline sold the natural gas to wholesale customers who in turn sold it to consumers. In 1958, the state of Louisiana adopted a severance tax to be paid by Louisiana gas producers.
