This case comes to us from the District Court of the Virgin Islands. Louis Smith was convicted of first degree murder, V.I.Code Ann. tit. 14, § 922(a)(1),1 and unlawful possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence, V.I.Code Ann. tit. 14, § 2253(a). He was sentenced to life imprisonment on the murder count...
