The defendant, Leslie Young, was charged by grand jury indictment with first degree murder, in violation of LSA-R.S. 14:30. He pled not guilty and, thereafter, changed his plea to not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity. Subsequently, the State reduced the charge to second degree murder, a violation of LSA-R.S. 14:30.1. The defendant was rearraigned and entered a plea of not guilty.
