Defendant, Vernal Nugent, was tried and found guilty of the second degree murder of his son, David Nugent, in violation of La.R.S. 14:30.1. Nugent was sentenced to imprisonment at hard labor for life, to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
