On January 9, 1990, the defendant entered guilty pleas pursuant to a negotiated plea agreement. He pleaded guilty to and was convicted of attempt (first-degree murder) (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, pars. 8-4, 9-1(a)), home invasion (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, par. 12-11), and aggravated battery (Ill.
