Defendant Ben McCreadie and his codefendants Laura Bowers and William Nimitz, Jr., were charged with first degree murder, pursuant to section 9-1(a)(1) of the Criminal Code of 1961 (Criminal Code) (Ill. Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, par. 9-1(a)(1)), in the murder of Bowers' husband, David Bowers. Defendant pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
