On October 30, 1990, defendant, Kenneth Doyle Hughes, was convicted by a jury of aiding and abetting in the manufacture of amphetamine in violation of 21 U.S.C. § 841(a)(1) and 18 U.S.C. § 2. Defendant Hughes moved for a judgment of acquittal at the close of the government's case on the basis that the evidence was insufficient to sustain a conviction of the offense.
