The defendant, Charles C. Ferree, an inmate of the Menard Correctional Center in Randolph County, was convicted of unlawful possession of a weapon by a person in the custody of the Department of Corrections Facility (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, par. 24-1.1(b)). He was sentenced to seven years' imprisonment to be served consecutively to his sentence from Cook County which he was serving at the time of the current offense...
