Defendant, Bernell Crockett, Sr., was initially charged, tried and convicted of the forcible rape of Janice Chandler, a violation of La.R.S. 14:42.1, in August 1984. His conviction was reversed by this court and remanded for a new trial after we found that defendant's original counsel failed to discover and present certain medical evidence, denying him a fair trial.
