Presiding Justice STOUDER delivered the opinion of the court:

A jury convicted the defendant, Terry Burnside, of unlawful use of weapons by a felon (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, par. 24-1.1(a)). A second jury found the defendant guilty of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 56½, par. 1401(a)(2)). Thereafter, he was sentenced to prison terms of 5 and 15 years, respectively. He filed an appeal in both cases...
