Defendant James Edward Poindexter was arrested at Douglas Municipal Airport in Charlotte, North Carolina, on 17 December 1989, after police officers searched him and discovered cocaine. On 5 February 1990, defendant was charged with two counts of trafficking in drugs, one by felonious possession, and one by felonious transportation of 400 grams or more of cocaine.
