On April 24, 1987, the State filed an Information in the Fourth Judicial District Court in Missoula County, charging Charles Jay Devlin with Misdemeanor Assault and Attempted Deliberate Homicide. The incident at issue involved two different victims; the State alleged that Devlin had assaulted his wife Cindy and had tried to kill Dale Hart.
