Justice JOHNSON delivered the opinion of the court:

Defendant, Patrick Galvin, was charged by indictment with three counts of criminal sexual assault (Ill.Rev.Stat.1985, ch. 38, par. 12-13), and two counts of criminal sexual abuse (Ill.Rev.Stat.1985, ch. 38, par. 12-15). Following a jury trial, defendant was found guilty of criminal sexual assault and sentenced to 5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
