Defendant physicians, Dr. Antonio Romero and Dr. Jesusa Romero, were charged with sixty-seven and thirty-three counts of Medicaid fraud under R.S. 14:70.1, respectively.1 After a complicated and protracted jury trial, Dr. Antonio Romero was convicted on sixty counts and Dr. Jesusa Romero on twenty-eight counts.
