Defendant, Joe L. Young, was convicted of armed violence (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, par. 33A-2), attempt (armed robbery) (Ill. Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, pars. 8-4(a), 18-2), and aggravated battery (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, par. 12-4), and was sentenced to 11 years, 10 years, and 5 years in prison, respectively.
