The State's evidence tended to show the following: On the evening of 14 August 1988, Leonard Davis, the victim of the alleged robbery, was visiting a friend's house in Goldsboro. At about 10:30 p.m. he decided to walk home and headed down Highway 13 carrying a backpack which contained approximately $145.00 in cash, a pair of eyeglasses, a compact disc, several paperback books and an expired driver's permit.
