Appellant Timothy Stepnes was rendered quadriplegic as the result of a hit-and-run car accident. Stepnes commenced a personal injury action against the driver, Muriel Adams, her companion, respondent Susan Sage, and Dick & Mary's Bar, the tavern where Adams and Sage had been drinking immediately prior to the incident.
