In this divorce proceeding involving the break-up of a marriage of twenty years, a probate judge ordered the husband to pay alimony to the wife in the amount of $700 a week for a period of eight years.1 Because this court concluded that the rationale for the alimony portion of the judgment did not appear "either explicitly or by clear implication," Bowring v. Reid, 399 Mass. 265
