Plaintiff, an employee of Metro-North Commuter Railroad (Metro-North) from 1977 to 1986, brought this action alleging slander against defendant, the head of her department. The gravamen of the complaint is that, on July 16, 1986, without cause, defendant called her into his office and, in the presence of two supervisors, stated "[y]ou have a problem.
