Defendant, James Shockley, was charged by indictment with aggravated criminal sexual assault (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1987, ch. 38, par. 12-14(a)(2)). The grand jury later amended the indictment to charge defendant with criminal sexual assault (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1987, ch. 38, par. 12-13(a)(1)). Following a jury trial, defendant was found guilty and was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment. On appeal...
