During the late 1970's, defendants Harold and Rosemarie Holloway sold cattle infected with brucellosis through their dealership in Lewis County. In 1978, 1980, and 1981, lawsuits were filed against them by purchasers of the diseased cattle. Initially these suits were filed in Lewis and Whatcom Counties. Later, they were consolidated into one action filed in Whatcom County.
