The plaintiffs own five pieces of residential property in Edgartown on the island of Martha's Vineyard. Each of the properties was rented for the 1986 summer season for use by a group of unrelated people. In five complaints for judicial review, brought pursuant to G.L.c. 40A, § 17, the plaintiffs challenged decisions of the zoning board of appeals of Edgartown determining that the properties were being used as "transient residential facilities" in violation...
