Chester Love was found guilty by a jury of two counts of robbery in the first degree, a class A felony, and one count of misconduct involving a weapon in the first degree, a class C felony. Prior to sentencing, Love moved for a new trial based on newly discovered evidence, claiming that a fellow inmate at the Cook Inlet Pretrial Facility, Sammy Lee Hemphill, had confessed committing the crimes in Love's case.
