Justice FREEMAN delivered the opinion of the court:

Defendant, Edwin Ward, was charged by information with possession of a controlled substance, to wit, cocaine, with intent to deliver. (Ill.Rev.Stat.1985, ch. 56½, par. 1402.) Defendant was convicted, sentenced to eight years' imprisonment and fined $6,000 after a bench trial. Defendant appeals only the denial of his pre-trial motion to suppress evidence and quash his arrest.
