On December 27, 1985, the paths of the defendants, Kenneth R. Jackson and Melva Grunden, crossed, or more appropriately, collided. On that date, Mr. Jackson drove a 1976 Oldsmobile into a car in which Ms. Grunden was a passenger, causing Ms. Grunden to be injured.
