OPINION

DICKENSON, Justice.

Mason Staggs was a 16-year-old student at Cooper High School when he shot a teacher in the face after learning that he would receive a failing grade on his report card for the second six weeks grading period. He was certified for trial as an adult after a hearing in the juvenile court. After the trial court accepted his plea of guilty, the jury rejected his request for probation and assessed his punishment at 14 years confinement...
