On August 1, 1989, defendant Nelson Coleman was found guilty by a jury sitting in the circuit court of Coles County of committing the offense of aggravated criminal sexual assault in violation of section 12-14(b)(1) of the Criminal Code of 1961 (Criminal Code). (Ill.Rev.Stat.1989, ch. 38, par. 12-14(b)(1).) Defendant was subsequently found eligible for an extended-term sentence and was sentenced to 35 years' imprisonment...
