Appellant Albert Raymond Green was convicted by a jury of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(1).1 At the time of sentencing, the government sought to enhance Green's sentence as a three time offender under 18 U.S.C. § 924(e)(1).2 That statute provides:
