The plaintiff brought this action against the defendants, A. Hunter Bowman (Bowman) and his wife, Carolyn R. Bowman, to recover money loaned on a promissory note. In their answer, the defendants alleged several special defenses, including that the interest rate charged on the promissory note was usurious.
