On the evening of December 19, 1987 Monica Byrne was stopped in her car alone at a train crossing on Burgundy Street in the city of New Orleans waiting for a train to clear the intersection. A second vehicle containing two unknown males pulled up and stopped behind Mrs. Byrne's vehicle.
