On August 24, 1986, the appellee, Betty Amos, was a passenger in a pickup truck driven by her son, Leslie Amos. Leslie had borrowed the truck from his boss, Earl Scyrkels. Gary Dale Shadwick, who was legally drunk and uninsured, ran a stop sign and crashed into Scyrkels' truck, injuring the appellee.
