On May 16, 1989, following a jury trial in the circuit court of Macon County, defendant Paul Green was found guilty of the offenses of armed violence and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1987, ch. 38, par. 33A-2; ch. 56 1/2, par. 1401(b)(2).) He subsequently received concurrent jail sentences of 12 years on the armed-violence conviction and 6 years...
