Derrick Oden Brown, appellant, confessed to and was subsequently convicted by a jury in the Circuit Court for Prince George's County of the March 26, 1988 murder of Renee Thomas. The jury's verdict was for second degree murder. Appellant was sentenced to a term of 30 years imprisonment, with all but 20 years suspended, in favor of 5 years probation upon his release.
