On May 27, 1987, Elena Bontkowski was arrested after selling a half-kilogram of cocaine to an undercover Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent. She was charged with one count of attempting to distribute cocaine, in violation of 21 U.S.C. § 846, and three counts of distributing cocaine, each in violation of 21 U.S.C. § 841(a)(1).
