In February 1987 the plaintiff husband, Julian Clark Culton, instituted actions for divorce and for equitable distribution. In August 1988, counsel for defendant wife, Jane Anderson Culton, moved for appointment, under North Carolina Rule of Civil Procedure 17, of a guardian ad litem for the defendant.
