Aubrey Clyde Patterson filed suit against Clarke County Motors ("Clarke") on October 31, 1985, for benefits under the workmen's compensation laws of Alabama. Patterson alleged that he had an accident at work on November 9, 1984, which loosened a previously implanted hip prosthesis to the extent that it had to be replaced.
