On July 11, 1988, following a bench trial in the circuit court of Champaign County, defendant Ronald E. Jocelyn was convicted of the offense of escape in violation of section 3-6-4 of the Unified Code of Corrections (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1987, ch. 38, par. 1003-6-4).
