Plaintiff's decedent, Michael E. Wichmann, was a police officer employed with the defendant, Raleigh Police Department. Officer Wichmann committed suicide on 1 June 1982. Plaintiff filed for benefits under the Worker's Compensation Act, alleging that her husband suffered from dysthymic disorder, depression, which resulted in his committing suicide.
