Appellant Charles Carlos Smith was convicted of murder in the second degree in the killing of William J. Duplantis, Jr., in Sublette County. The killing occurred on May 6, 1987. On March 9, 1988, he was sentenced to the Wyoming State Penitentiary for a term of twenty to twenty-five years, with a maximum/minimum credit of 302 days already served in the local jails.
