HUSPENI, Judge.

Following a trial by jury, appellant Henry E. Jackson was convicted of criminal sexual conduct in the fourth degree in violation of Minn.Stat. § 609.345(1)(b) (1986) and sentenced to the mandatory minimum of 36 months. On appeal from the denial of his petition for postconviction relief, appellant contends the trial court erred on four evidentiary rulings and also that he was denied his right to effective counsel.
